What is Pilates

Pilates is a physical fitness method that works the entire body from the core out, improving strength, flexibility, posture, balance, and body awareness. Pilates increases lean muscle tone with an emphasis on lengthening the body and aligning the spine, rather than “bulking up” and shortening the muscles.
In Pilates, we focus mainly on the core of the body, or what we call the “Powerhouse.” This includes the abdominals, lower back, pelvic floor, glutes, and the muscles surrounding the hips. Pilates exercises emphasize smooth, flowing movements, focusing on breath as well as control and precision.
